Dieter Ernst is a senior East-West Center fellow (at the full professional level). He will give a talk to address an issue that is right now at the center of debates about US-China economic relations. I will talk about the role of standard-essential patents (SEPs) for China’s efforts to move up the value-added chain in manufacturing and services (see attached abstract). I think this is an area where China’s role will be increasingly critical in creating a more inclusive standardization system to reduce patent rights abuse.
